Cactus Valley Art is happy to have found their home in the Historic Downtown District of Harlingen, Texas. We’re a small independently owned art supply store. Our mission is to make art accessible to all by holding space, providing opportunity, and sourcing materials for our community in the RGV.
We hold space through our various classes and workshops which allows people to come together, having meaningful conversations and make connections with each other.
We provide opportunity through partnering with artists in the community to host a class or throw an event. As well as providing people with the opportunity to show their work in our gallery space.
We source materials that our community is directly asking for such as clay and ceramic supplies. We put a huge importance in carrying brands that meet our standards both in quality of product as well as brands we are proud to stand behind ethically. We carry several brands that come from small businesses across the USA, many of which are Woman Owned, POC Owned, or LGBTQIA+ Owned.
Who We Are
Hey! I’m Souther Recio and I’m the person behind Cactus Valley Art & Supply Company! A few fun facts about me, I’m a third generation Brownsville native, I’m queer, I have four cats, I studied theater design in college, and I have always loved making art.
When the idea for this store first came to me, I was really just focused on building the retail space, but after opening our doors in August of 2023, Cactus Valley Art has turned into so much more than I could have ever imagined. YOU have taken this place and make it your own!
This is a place for the outcasts, the weirdos, and those of us who have never felt like we fit in. This is a safe place to make a mess, to make mistakes, to learn, and to grow. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community I care deeply about creating safe spaces where we can gather and be in community.
I’m an artist and a creative first and I’m learning everyday how to be an entrepreneur so please be patient with me as I navigate this crazy moment in my life. I’m so happy to be here, and I’m so happy to share this with you! Please come by, ask me about how we got started, or what classes we’re currently offering. I will gladly talk your ear off!
